Today we are going to learn how to go from this:
Image hosting by Photobucket to this: Image hosting by Photobucket

or this:
Image hosting by Photobucket to this: Image hosting by Photobucket

Start:

Image hosting by Photobucket

Make sure your base image is light enough - If needs be, duplicate the layer and set it to Screen. Do this as many times as needed to make the base image a good lightness. (Make sure to merge the layers once you have finished lightening, so that the base image is just one layer.)

Image hosting by Photobucket

Duplicate the base, set it to Color Burn and 35%

Duplicate again, set it to Screen and 35%

Duplicate once more, set it to Screen and 35%

Image hosting by Photobucket

(New Layer) Insert Gradient - Set to Lighten and 50%

(New Layer) Fill with #001436, set to Exclusion and 100%

Duplicate the base, set it to Linear Burn and 35%
Duplicate again, set it to Screen and 35%
Duplicate once more, set it to Soft Light and 35%

(New Layer) Fill with #001436, set to Exclusion and 100%

(New Layer) Insert Gradient - Set to Lighten and 50%

(New Layer) Insert Gradient - Set to Soft Light and 100%
Duplicate Gradient - Set to Linear Burn and 27%
Duplicate again - Set to Screen and 27%

Duplicate the base, set to Darken and 74%
Duplicate again, set to Darken and 74%
Duplicate once more, set to Screen and 30%

Download the curves file here.
Remember where you unzip it to.
Go back to your icon, choose Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Curves...
When the first prompt box pops up, just click OK. On the next prompt box, choose "Load..." as pictured to the left. (Click to enlarge.)
Load the curves file you just downloaded (curves.acv).
Select OK.

You are all done! Add text if you'd like, and voila. :)

Download the curves file here.
Remember where you unzip it to.

Sorry, I'm new to Photoshop ... where do I unzip it to?

Anywhere - (My Documents, Desktop, etc.) just remember where you unzip it to so that you can know where to go when you open it later.

Hope that makes sense :)
